Boron nitride in Superplastic Forming (SPF)
In superplastic forming, metal substrates—such as titanium, aluminum, or superalloys—are shaped into highly complex forms at extreme temperatures. During this process, thermal stress, pressure, and sliding friction act directly on the surfaces of the substrate and the die.
Traditional release agents such as graphite, aluminum oxide, zirconium oxide, or silicon nitride often reach their physical and chemical limits in this context. This results in reduced quality of the molded parts, shorter tool life, and high process costs.
Boron nitride products, on the other hand, demonstrate their full potential in superplastic forming—precisely where other materials often fail. Thanks to its chemical inertness, high temperature stability, and excellent lubricating properties, it forms an ideal separating layer between the workpiece and the tool.
